Provide health services to students and staff. Promote health education andpreventative health practices for students and staff. Oversee the day to day needs of students;as related to health care.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Valid Texas Licensed Vocational Nurse License in the state of Texas from the State Board ofNurse ExaminersExperienced school nurse preferredCertification by the Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct and record studentvision, hearing and spinal screeningsCertification by the Texas Department of State Health services to vision screen with a SpotVision CameraBLS / CPR CertificationSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defectsStrong organizational, communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to implement policies and proceduresAble to execute student plans of careBloodborne Pathogen TrainerEpi Pen TrainerExperience:Two years of nursing experience, preferably in school nursingMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Nursing Services1. Provide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established schoolhealth protocols.2. Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students.3. Serve as health advocate for students.4. Notify parent(s) / guardian(s) of accidents or illnesses and secure medical care for students untilparent/guardian arrival.5. Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school. Administermedications according to district policy, procedures and physician orders.6. Establish and implement effective procedures for mandatory screening program, conduct professionalreferrals when necessary.7. Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of campus health program and make changes based onfindings while maintaining communication with the District lead nurse.8. Evaluate faculty and staff as needed on health related topics.Instruction8. Participate in development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education toindividuals and groups.9. Educate faculty or staff as needed on health related topics12. Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.Consultation13. Serve as health liaison between school, physicians, parents and community.14. Assess student health concerns and make appropriate referrals in conjunction with lead nurse withstudent, teacher(s), parent(s) / guardian(s), and medical and health care professionals as needed.15. Participate as requested in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team and schoolcommittees and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) and individual Health Plans (IHP’s)16. Make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary with permission andaccompanied by the Lead Nurse and/or Campus Principal.17. Communicate regularly with principal, Lead Nurse, school counselor, teachers, parents, food serviceand other staff regarding student health issues.Clerical16. Obtain, review and evaluate student immunizations and notify appropriate individuals to maintaincompliance.17. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documentsrequired according to district policy.18. Request and properly maintain supplies and equipment needed for effective clinical operations.Compliance19. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule,State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.20. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.21. Maintain confidentiality.22. Report potential health and safety hazards to Lead Nurse and/or principal.Safety23. Use Universal Precautions Procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care.24. Keep health clinic clean and sanitary.Professional Development25. Maintain certification in CPR, vision and hearing screening, and as a health screener.26.
